Fireman Snowshoe Tour
Local outdoor guru Yves Kirouac (a distant cousin of Jack Kerouac) will tell you, "If you can walk, you can snowshoe." Well, almost. Before you take off on the trail with this Kirouac, he'll give you some helpful tips how to shift your body weight and adjust your stride for the easiest trip. As you tromp through forests of Douglas Fir tress the paddle-shaped shoe allows you to feel like you're floating on top of the snow (although everyone sinks once or twice). The lessons on snowshoeing naturally transition into Yves sharing his knowledge about the wilderness. He might point out holes made by a Yellow Belly Sap Sucker Woodpecker, explain medicinal uses for sap, or identify black bear claw marks made on a beechnut tree. But he also knows when to stop talking and let nature's silence lull you into a dreamy state. For the finale of the Fireman Showshoe Tour, your fire making lesson ends in a cozy fire.
