Mount Filerimos, really more of a hill at only 267 meters (876 feet) high, still manages to have some of the prettiest views on the island and has been the site of a lot of local history. At the top, a Phoenician shrine stood until, in the 3rd century, a Temple of Athena—the foundations of which can still be seen in places—was built over it. In 1522, Süleyman the Magnificent used the spot to direct the siege of Rhodes. Nowadays the mountaintop is the home to a beautiful, and peaceful, monastery.
