Miyazaki Jingu

Claiming the title of Miyazaki’s oldest shrine, Miyazaki Jingu was said to have been founded more than 2,600 years ago during the reign of Jimmu Tenno, the first emperor. The Shinto shrine was rebuilt in 1907 at the emperor's birthplace in a tranquil forest setting, surrounded by wisteria. The temple's simple exterior provides the backdrop for some of Miyazaki’s biggest annual events including the Miyazaki Shrine Grand Festival, held in October, which honors Emperor Jimmu with ceremonies, taiko drum performances and a costume parade.
