Looking Up Inside the DomesMitchell Park has three domes that are three different climate zones of the Horticultural Conservatory. First built in 1898, the current domes were constructed starting in 1959, consisting of three beehive-shaped (not geodesic) glass domes, 140 feet in diameter at the base and 85 feet high, offering 15,000 square feet of growing space for plant display. Each dome has a distinct climate and exhibit plants in a naturalistic setting. These are the Desert, Tropical, and Floral Show domes. This Photo is looking straight up in the Tropical Dome. It's well worth a visit during winter when there are not many flowers outside.
