Misty Fjords National Monument
Spend a day exploring by boat or seaplane the rugged landscapes of Misty Fjords National Monument, where more than 8,000 square kilometers (or 2 million acres) of protected wilderness encompass fog-shrouded, temperate rain forests; electric-blue glacial lakes; and deep fjords like Behm Canal, with its sheer cliffs that rise 900 meters (2,900 feet) above the water. Watch for animal life along the way: Bears are abundant, especially when the salmon are spawning, while killer whales cruise the fjords and bald eagles soar overhead.
