Puffins on Mingulay, the Outer Hebrides lesser known Puffin colony
Mingulay resembles an island that you can only dream about. Taking a boat trip from Barra with 5 other people we were greeted by Basking Sharks in the bay and a party of Grey Seals on the beach. A lovely man called Donald is the only man who can take you there on his small fishing boat. He provides tea and biscuits prepared by his ship mate in the tiny cabin whilst pointing out the great sea cliffs - some of the highest in the UK that echo with the ghostly sounds of the rare sea birds that call it home. On scrambling the cliff rocks from the boat, a puffin, his mouth full of Sand eels gave me a rare sighting before promptly diving into its nest.
