I was on my bike with friends the day after Thanksgiving, beginning our climb to the summit of Mount Tam, when the Mill Valley Lumber Yard caught my eye on Miller Avenue. Fresh flowers, small boutiques in the old lumber yard offices and striking models of vintage boats on display led us to return here after our ride, to check it all out.
Rivers get my attention like nothing else quite does in nature's playground and I have such respect for the craftsmanship behind hand made boat building. GUIDEBOAT Co. builds three American vintage boats (all on display inside and outside of the storefront), as well as apparel, accessories and other goods that are related to the spirit of being on, around and inspired by water. I loved the store before I even got both feet in the entrance.
You can find their flagship store and workshop housed in the 19th century Mill Valley Lumber Yard's old hardware store, cabinet shop and mercantile building. They're open every day from 10 am to 7 pm.
