Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
A day in the life of the Batwa
If you are planning to see the gorillas in Rwanda, Congo or Uganda, make time to visit Kisoro and experience the Batwa trail a US Aid & Ugandan Wildlife Authority project that supports the hunter gatherer pygmies known as the Batwa. To protect the national parks and Gorilla's habituating these hills, the Batwa people were asked to leave these lands and re-settle in urban villages. The Batwa have struggled assimilating this new way of life and thanks to this project, the Batwa can be self-sustaining by acting as guides showcasing the way their lives once were to tourists around the world. Their traditions and communities are fast diminishing – support these communities with a visit. Read my blog about our experiences on the Batwa trail.
