Peruvian Dining at Merkado 31
A few blocks up from Carillon Miami Beach, Merkado 31 showcases Peruvian ceviche in all its varied glory, starting with Ceviche Clasico: red onions, yam, and tender Peruvian corn. The Ceviche Mercado turns up the heat, with fish marinated in “Leche de Tigre”—milk, lime juice, and aji (Peruvian hot peppers). Ceviche may be Peru’s most famous dish, but the country has become a hotbed for innovative cooking—and that spirit of creativity is at work in Merkado 31’s kitchen as well. So save room to sample entrées like quinoa-breaded shrimp with lime-infused camu-camu syrup, seaweed, and mashed yucca. Pair your meal with a glass of wine or the sweet Peruvian beverage chicha morada, made from purple corn and pineapple, and spiced with cinnamon and clove. (Psst: Chicha morada is not on the menu, so you’ll have to request it.)
