 Mercado Santa Ana
Mercado Santa Ana
Mexico is known for street food, and Mérida is no exception. Regional favorites, such as panuchos (a puffed, deep-fried tortilla, stuffed with refried beans and topped with cabbage and meat) and salbutes (a puffed, deep-fried tortilla topped with lettuce, avocado and pulled chicken or turkey) are a common snack for locals. The Mercado Santa Ana has a variety of food stalls set up throughout the week and is a good option for trying some Yucatecan favorites. As always, look for stalls packed with locals and head there. On Sundays, the main square also fills with food stands and is a great place to listen to music and talk to the yucatecos while chowing down on a panucho or two.
