Mercado de las brujas
Bewitched in Bolivia
The Witches Market (Mercado de las Brujas) is a labyrinth of curiosities. Vendors sell obscurities such as dried llama fetuses, frogs, dried snakes, starfish, soapstone figurines, feathers and dried herbs among many other unidentifiable objects . These fascinations are the raw ingredients used in traditional Aymara medicines and rituals. Bolivians purchase the dried llama fetuses to bury under the foundation of new buildings and houses as an offering to the Pachamama. Witch doctors frequent the market offering their services to locals. Visit and prepare to be spellbound!
