Solo Time On A Budget
Melissa's is a coffee shop/deli that is a bit of an institution in Cape Town. This is their flagship store. They make lots of wonderful, delicious things to eat and drink, if you are easily tempted by gorgeous packaging or have a sweet tooth be warned, they don't come cheap! (Well not for us locals) BUT, they do have a wonderful, long, wooden counter with chairs and floor to ceiling windows which faces Table Mountain, laden with lots of glossy magazines both local and international from Vogue to Lula to Conde Nast Traveller. There is no problem with ordering just a tea or cappuccino and sitting for hours reading...Plenty of people on their own and no pressure to order more (although after an hour the carrot cake cupcakes will start calling your name.)

Great place to chill on a rainy afternoon, and if you stick around in Cape Town for winter, you'll welcome a cosy spot to escape to.
