A weekly tradition for many Melburnians is to visit one of the local markets to stock up on fresh produce for the week ahead, but there’s more to the markets than food.
The Queen Victoria Market, has retained the art deco features within its still functioning Dairy Hall. Hand over $3 at the Boreks stall and enjoy a spiced lamb borek or stop at the Polish Deli for a traditionally made sausage and bread with all the toppings. Come summer, the market is also host to the Suzuki Night Markets, a change for local artisans to sell their wares and local bands to play each Wednesday night.
Each month the Lonely Hunter Market – formally Blackbird Market - attracts vintage lovers to the Cape Lounge in Fitzroy. Think vintage clothing, home made owl-shaped soaps and a smattering of quirky jewellery.
