Meke Lake is about an hour drive east of Konya. A salt lake in the form of a moat, it also boasts sulphur infused mud, which can be cleansing or irritating depending on your skin type. The hike to the top of the crater, (that created the lake in its heyday), is pleasant, granted the weather is suitable. Dodging cactus on the way up the hill was the easy part, trying to stand upright against the intense gusts of wind, not so easy. Check the weather before you make the trek, but definitely make the trek. The lake is disappearing due to global warming, according to the locals. Pack a picnic and make a day of it.
