La Jolla's museum of contemporary art, the MCASD, has been one of my all-time favorites for many years. The Museum's collection includes more than 4,000 works of art created since 1950. It's a magical place, and even on a grey, overcast day, the ocean views compete with the stunningly curated exhibitions here.
The spaces are intimate, and both here and at the Downtown San Diego locations I found myself in animated discussion with security guards that were passionate, and extremely knowledgeable about the exhibited artists and bodies of work.
A huge expansion is planned for the La Jolla museum location. I hope they get it right and don't mess up what's been so special and intimate about this place. Fingers crossed.
Enjoy your visit, and don't forget to stroll through the sculpture garden. And of course...exit through the giftshop!
