Marooned Boat in Westport, Mayo
Westport is one of the most beautiful places in the world. When I arrived, the tide was out, marooning a number of boats amid the sand and bladderwrack. Seagulls swoop and cry and you are consumed in the dense, leathery smell of seaweed and ocean. Salt is thick in the air. The pub on the corner calls with fat slices of soda bread and tea. The winds cascades around you like a live thing, even in summer its name is Wild. Ride a horse on the beach and be buffeted by gale force winds...
