Guided Excursions to Maya Sites
It's hard to know exactly how many Maya sites are in Belize
, as many have not yet been excavated and still more remain to be discovered. But that still leaves plenty of excavated sites open to the public that are magnificent, awe-inspiring places. While some of the sites, such as Caracol, are remote and harder to reach, others, including Xunantunich and Altun Ha, are easily accessible and well-maintained by the country's National Institute of Culture and History. A knowledgeable guide will help you understand the symbolism and functions of the structures at each site, shedding light on the innovations and ingenuity of past civilizations.
