Exploring Maui's Upcountry offers numerous travel adventures such as finding a ranch of surfing goats. Imagine that those creatures produce 30 award winning cheeses. At the Surfing Goat Dairy, free-range goats play while you order samplers of their cheeses, all produced at the farm without pesticides or hormones. Choose from the Aloha Line which includes Garden Fantasia, a fusion of local herbs, or the Ole, a spicy mix of jalapeños, artichokes and lime juice. For a milder taste there's Purple Rain which blends herbs from the Maui Lavender farm nearby. A gourmet palate may prefer Shark Bite, a line of succulent Chèvre infused with gold flakes, black truffles or delicate smoked oysters. On a hot Maui afternoon, I enjoyed a sample of Feta (aged for 5 months in brine and olive oil), along with tastes of Maui Secret ( drained and marinated in Provence's virgin olive oil, Thyme, garlic, lemon zest), and the Napa Wrap ( Chèvre blanketed in grape leaves). Amazing what surfing goats can produce.
