Mastro’s Restaurants is now a collection of high-end, sophisticated steakhouses you can find in locations around California, Illinois and Nevada, but the company started as a single family-owned operation in Scottsdale. Even for a girl who likes her steak without a trace of pink (I know, I know), the meat is never over-cooked or dry. All of your favorites are here – petite filet, ribeye chop, double cut porterhouse – but the really exciting part comes when selecting your sides. You absolutely cannot leave without trying the lobster mashed potatoes or the roasted Brussels sprouts with crispy pancetta. I’m of the belief that it’s not dessert unless there’s chocolate, but Mastro’s signature warm butter cake is the one exception I’ll make. It’s a warm, pillowy delight that’s topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
