Wall Art That's Actually A WallStunning Haitian art is literally everywhere within the Marriott Port-au-Prince. Haiti's newest and nicest hotel espouses the work of no fewer than 22 local artisans throughout its guest rooms, lobby, eateries, lounges, meeting areas, outside patios – everywhere.
Not all of this marvelous art hangs on the hotel's walls either. Some of it actually is the wall.
The mesmerizing collection of decorative wall tiles in the hotel's La Sirene Restaurant is a prime example. They're a product of Mosaique Gariere, a legend in the tile business that's been producing hand-painted distinctive mosaic tiles in Haiti since 1944.
I've seen Mosaique Gariere tiles in more common applications on floors or accenting stairways throughout the country, always marveling at their intricate styles and the whimsical sophistication they add to any space.
At the Marriott, though, they really stand out more as a singularly stunning work of art, adding a nice touch of authentic Haitian artistry.
