In an art-focused hotel like The Marriott Port-au-Prince, which boasts a collection of some 1,500 creative pieces produced by 22 local Haitian artists, you should expect to find unique expressions of beauty everywhere... even on the check presenter.
The beautifully-beaded folios are the work of Pascale Theard, a celebrated local designer an artist credited with bringing formerly taboo Vodou symbols into mainstream fashion and art in Haiti and abroad.
The symbol couldn't be more appropriate for the setting in which it's presented. It represents the Vodou Loa (spirit) La Sirene, which translates to The Mermaid. La Sirene is also the name of the restaurant where you'll find the bar at The Marriott Port-au-Prince; a nice little detail seamlessly blending an authentic slice of Haiti into the country's newest and most modern hotel.
