For The Best Cheeseburgers in Paradise, it's Haiti
Most people don't think food, much less gourmet hamburgers, when they think of Haiti... but they should. The capital city of Port-au-Prince is one of just a handful of cities around the world (and the only one in the Caribbean) that participates in the global Burger Week culinary festival. Held each year in early-September, the event challenges local Haitian chefs to create ever more heavenly hamburger dishes. The Marriott Port-au-Prince's Banm Yon Lot Burger, pictured here, was the big winner at the 2015 Burger Week competition. Standard inclusions like cheese, bacon, raw onions, lettuce, and tomato are combined with plantain chips (a Haitian staple) and caramelized onions to give this burger some uniquely Creole chops.
