The capital of the French side of the island is a glittering example of a bustling Caribbean town. The town is positioned between the harbor and an imposing hillside fort, with gingerbread-style buildings along winding roads that lead to the port. Its French influence is palpable in its wrought iron Belle Epoque architectural details, boulangeries (bakeries) and bistros with tables spilling out onto the sidewalks.
