I know this may be hard to believe, but you CAN find authentic Mexican food in Berlin. After living in Europe for many years and being let down every time a new Mexican restaurant would open up, I was recommended Maria Bonita’s by very good friend--a native Floridian also on the hunt for those fiery authentic Mexican flavors. As a native Californian myself, I certainly entered this establishment with a healthy dose of skepticism, but I’m so happy to have taken that plunge! There’s nothing glamorous about the restaurant, but the food is absolutely delicious and authentic. Opened by a duo from Texas and Mexico, Maria Bonita’s offers all the staples including mole, tacos, enchiladas suizas, and guacamole. The next time you hear there’s no spicy food in Berlin, head over to Maria Bonita’s and sample one drop of their Habanero salsa. Your palate won’t know what hit it.
