Every casual bar should aspire to what Marcopolo’s has going on. The cocktails are not only crafted with surprising ingredients (When was the last time you had pisco with passionfruit and barbecue sauce?), but they’re also presented with a unique level of care. The Strawberry Basil Smash is shaken in a Smucker’s jar, original lid and all. A concoction called La Cura, comprised of ginger, lemon, smoked whiskey, and chai-infused honey, is served with a delicate glass cover, as if to contain Tinker Bell at the table while you sip away. Beyond the delectable drink selection, the restaurant-bar also offers a wide range of food: burrata salad, patatas bravas, Tibetan dumplings, Thai curry, bacon-and-egg hamburgers, just to name a few. The music is a consistent blend of Black Keys, Rolling Stones, and Jack Johnson—they mix as oddly well as the absinthe, lime, and beet juice in the Khublai Khan—and the place never gets so crowded that you can’t hear the person talking across from you. Worth making your temporary corner bar.
