Chagall Museum
Born in Russia, saved by France and then the US, Marc Chagall moved to Vence in 1950, living and painting there until his death in 1985. Built to display the biblical series that the artist donated to his adopted country in 1977, the museum is an architectural ode to color and light. Masterpieces in primary colors fill floating walls, angled to play with the sunlight. The collection now encompasses over 260 works, including a monumental mosaic that crowns the eden-ic gardens. The artist approved of the garden of olive trees, cypress and green oaks that echo the biblical themes of his life’s work.
