Hervey Bay is one of those spots that flicks off the switch, causing you to kick back, relax, carefree and detached. The main spot for visiting Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island and home to a diverse and delightful array of wild birds, trees, glistening lakes and varied nature, it's also a lovely lilting spot in itself. A seventeen kilometre Esplanade that curves around the many bays, the kilometre long Urangan Pier, and the soft sand of the many coves that line the coast, and paddle in clear waters. Where to rest your weary head when exploring such a place?
A bit of luxury and comfort wouldn't go amiss. On my own terms. Mantra Hervey Bay is an ideal hybrid. Cleverly designed rooms maximise the space, with kitchen, dining, living and sleeping areas all separate and light.
On entering mine I'm immediately drawn to the balcony and it's view over the marina. Stretching from the horizon back to you are vast lengths of glistening azure waters, the rush of the sea milling with the gentle happy sounds of clinking glasses and chatter at the marina below, where cafes and restaurants spill out, and meals can be arranged should you wish. Yaght masts glisten in the glare of sunlight and the twinkle of the moonlight, both equally captivating. Sit here with a drink, a book, and tell me you haven't switched off?
