The chance to spot one of the most gentle marine mammals draws people from all over the world to Fort Myers and Sanibel, where manatees can often be spotted swimming along the shore in the area's back bay waters. While a sighting is never guaranteed, local eco tours and cruise operators are experts at knowing where they are most likely to be found on any given day. Lovers Key State Park is one reliable place to see manatees year round since grass flats where they feed are nearby. And while you can't legally enter the water to swim with the manatees here, seeing them from the vantage point of a standup paddleboard (rent them at Lovers Key!) is the experience of a lifetime.
