The bus system that ran around the island of Malta operated using vintage buses from all over the world. They were individually decorated and named (all orange and yellow so as to be recognized as the local bus service). You could take them anywhere on the island for a nominal sum. You would find them all just outside the main entrance of the walled city of Valletta but they were all removed from service in July 2011.
Now you can ride in comfort—in buses with air conditioning, the ability to transport more people, and there's even an open-top bus tour. If you're lucky though, you may spot a few of these vintage buses around still!
Just like the once huge fleet of these retro vehicles, cities change and modernize rapidly. While easier to get around, I miss the scores of old buses here. So wherever it is you're dreaming of traveling, go now!
