Mallorca BalloonsWith its quilted patchwork of green farms, rugged mountain peaks, and medieval villages, Mallorca is an ideal place for an early-morning hot-air balloon flight, as long as you are prepared to leave your hotel before dawn. Mallorca Balloons, established in 1988, was one of the first companies on the island to take passengers up in the air in their hot-air balloons. Located on the eastern side of the island, not far from Manacor, the company's balloons often float above Petra (the exact flight path will depend on wind conditions). Petra's main claim to fame is as the birthplace of Fray Junipero Serra who established California's missions. The view from one of the eight balloons in the company's fleet reveals the orderly grid that characterized Spanish settlements not just in California, but in most of those that the country established in the New World. After the roughly hour-long flight, guests are served a breakfast of meats, cheeses, and bread, along with coffee and juice. In addition to the general individual rate per flight, the company offers private two- and four-person flights.
