The Malabar House Fort Cochin
The first of Fort Cochin's slew of heritage hotels, Malabar House has been in operation since 1996, though its history dates all the way back to 1755, when it was commissioned by a Dutchman. Today it's one of the most sought-after places to stay in the historic port area, owing largely to its gorgeous rooms and common areas filled with an eclectic collection of paintings and sculptures. The on-site facilities aren't too shabby, either, and include a lovely old-world courtyard with a small swimming pool, a spa featuring traditional Ayurvedic massages and treatments, and even a wine lounge serving Indian and international wines. Don't miss the gourmet fare on offer at Malabar Junction, where guests can dine on a variety of Keralan specialties, including dishes constructed around freshly caught local seafood.
Malabar House

A warning before you have lunch at the Malabar House. Once you walk into this boutique hotel located in an 18th-century building on the Parade Ground, you may be tempted to stay in Kochi and let your ship leave without you. If you are willing to take that risk, you’ll find a restaurant that serves up the best of South Indian cuisine (which generally favors rice over the breads more typical of northern India, uses more fish and seafood and is essentially spicier). The setting in this exquisitely restored hotel makes the food that much more delicious. It’s pretty much the ideal place to wait out the midday sun.

The Perfect Fishing Village
Fort Kochi is a beautiful little fishing village with everything I look for in a destination. Eco-friendly hotel, decorated by an owner with exquisite taste, delicious food, walk-able town, great shopping and historic sites. Known as the center of the spice trade, it is filled with narrow shops and alleyways lined with antiques and unusual finds. Malabar House is an historic mansion with a successful mix of old world charm and delightful Euro-chic decor. The minimalist open air courtyard, with evening music performances centers around a Keralan temple style pool. Off to the side is a simple open air restaurant serving tasty local fare-especially fresh fish. Just make sure to book more than one night here {my mistake}. There's too much to see!

East meets west
East-meets-west boutique hotel The Malabar House’s location away from the hustle and bustle lends this original retreat in Kerala a relaxed feel – no matter how hot or hectic it may be elsewhere. Comprised of two 18th-century colonial-style villas built around a courtyard (where you’ll find the acclaimed Mediterranean-accented restaurant, the Malabar Junction), it's full of eye-catching artworks and exotic fabrics – perfect for a stop-over when touring southern India, especially when teamed with stays at the Malabar Escapes retreats in the Keralan backwaters. The hotel prides itself on its art collection which showcases Kerala's cosmopolitan influences and sculptures and paintings are scattered throughout the Malabar House.
