Bearded and bespectacled Steven Soria is a third-generation leather craftsperson. In 2008, he founded Make Smith Leather Company, selling handmade bags, belts, keychains, home goods, wallets, and dog accessories. Leather-making is truly in his blood: His work, primarily crafted from equestrian-grade leathers such as bridle and latigo, is made with a nod to his grandfather and great-uncle who were well-known local saddlemakers. Soria’s parents still own the Handbag & Luggage retail and repair shop (in a sweet blue Victorian house on Chapala Street).
