Make Smith Leather Co.
The 38-year-old bearded, bespectacled Steven Soria is a third generation leather crafts-person, as he calls himself. In 2008, he formed Make Smith Leather Company, making bags, belts, keychains, home goods, wallets and dog supplies.

His goods are primarily constructed from equestrian leathers such as bridle and latigo, a nod to his grandfather and great-uncle, well-known saddlemakers in Santa Barbara post World War II. Soria's parents still own the Handbag & Luggage retail and repair shop (in a sweet blue Victorian house on Chapala Street), proving that leather making is truly in his blood.

Using handmade craftsmanship to make speciality goods available to retail customers is his mission, one Soria executes by hand in his workshop.
