Maine Maritime MuseumMaine’s impressive seafaring and shipbuilding heritage is celebrated at the Maine Maritime Museum’s 25-acre campus edging the Kennebec River. The site encompasses five original structures on the former Percy and Small Shipyard (1897–1920), a late Victorian home, and a full-size sculpture of the bones of the six-master Wyoming, crafted on-site here, as well as the purpose-built Maritime History building, chock-full of marine art and artifacts. Check out the boat shop, where volunteers restore small vessels, and pick up the schedule of demonstrations, hands-on exhibits, and river cruises. Plan in advance for the fascinating one-hour Bath Iron Works Story Trolley Tours, conducted by former employees of Bath Iron Works, which carries on the city’s shipbuilding tradition.
