Step back in time at Lillehammer’s open-air museum, one of the best in Norway. Set on the hillside overlooking the city and lake Mjøsa, the museum is split into three distinct sections.
Follow the paved trail around the log cabins to discover three 18th and 19th farmsteads. During the summer, the village is brought to life with actors playing the parts of farmers, maidens and even the local schoolteacher. The show town presents Lillehammer as it was at the turn of the 20th-century, while the indoor exhibitions include an authentic dental office from the 1850s and carved folk art from the region. Sports fans must also allow an hour to look around the Olympic Museum which shares the main building.
