In 1963, The Beatles went to an ashram in Rishikesh to write songs, an ashram that soon became famous and has since closed. Don't let yourself be stopped by the gates : finding a guide that will lead you inside is easier than finding sweet lassi. After a walk in the jungle, you will enter this magnificient site : the ruins of an ashram with all the facilities of a small town, reposessed by nature.
Inside this complex is the Beatles Cathedral Gallery. A tribute to The Beatles, obviously, but also to important yogis and the Dalai Lama. It is a place of peace, of self-reflection and of art to which visitors are encouraged to contribute by marking their passage on the walls.
And if that wasn't enough, on the roof of the tallest building you'll find what is probably the best view of Rishikesh and of the surrounding mountains. The whole of it makes for an incredible and inspiring experience !
