Originally a cotton mill, M50 is now home to a dozen art galleries showcasing contemporary Chinese art. Be sure to visit galleries island6 and M97—island6 takes you through a whirlwind of quirky LED works by art collective Liu Dao. M97, on the other hand, specializes in photography by Chinese artists and a few Western names like Michael Wolf. Fair warning: The complex can be tricky to navigate if you don't know how it works: Every building’s address is 50 Moganshan Lu (Road), and each building has a number.
