Great winery in Crete (careful with the GPS)The winery was breathtaking and so peaceful, we booked the "kerasma" package for two. This included six tasty wines and six Cretan Mezedes. Our guide was very knowledgeable and the food in the package was plentiful and delicious. We even purchased a few bottles to enjoy for the rest of our trip.
Our only issue was finding the winery. The GPS on GoogleMaps took us for a scary off road experience.
We took a few beautiful photos and then put the address back in the GPS. We should have known from the first tiny road we went down that we should have turned around but my husband trusted GoogleMaps and we trudged on. If I wasn't so completely terrified for our lives I would have taken some photos of the road. It took us up and THROUGH the backroad of the winery. We were going over ridiculous stones and weeds that hadn't been driven over in years (if not decades). Miraculously our Mercedes SUV managed to get all the way up all the hills and onto the gravel road back to the winery. By some act of god we did not get a flat and the bottom of our car didn't fall off.
Anyway, if you are using GPS make sure it takes you the way the winery says on their website: New highway leading from Heraklion’s industrial area towards South. Follow the brown street signs along the way and these will lead you to the wine cellar.
My advice: do not keep going down the back roads unless you have a really good car and don't want to face lots of charges from the rental company in case you get stuck!
