Surrounded by constant development in London, it can be easy to forget how beautiful England can be. A trip to Exmoor, dropping down into Lynmouth is the perfect reminder.
Take a cold winter's day when you have left it just a little too late for a long walk, make sure you have your camera, and hit the road.
Driving from the Watchet, Williton or Minehead direction, you will start down tight, winding country lanes surrounded by quaint cottages and farmland. This is pretty enough, but following Hill Road out of Minehead, the landscape completely opens up and the result is stunning.
As you ascend around tight hair pin bends and rumbling along by the ocean, be sure to take every oppurtunity to stop for a breath of fresh air and a breathtaking view.
At Allerford, its time to cut onto the A39 (still beautiful) and that road can be followed tall the way to Lynmouth which is as quirky and as picturesque as you could help for.
Take some time to wander around and then, for the grand finale, follow Watersmeet Road before it gets too dark to stop at the Watersmeet National Trust area which (again!) is incredibly pretty even in the middle of winter.
