Chaozhou cuisine revolves around seafood. A great place to taste the region's fare is at the restaurant Luhe Chaju. Chaozhou, or Teochew, is a neighbor of Guangzhou, located in nearby Guangdong province. Both cities rely heavily on seafood, which is why the upscale Luhe Chaju is a particularly good spot (cheap seafood is a fast way to get sick in China). Snow crab, abalone, and sea cucumber are specialties here, but they can easily cost more than 1,000RMB ($156). More affordable dishes include the baked oysters, Puning tofu, and fried tofu cakes.
