On the Road to Lough Dan, Wicklow
I'll never forget the winding road to Lough Dan that my brother and I took a few years ago. The road curves through the Wicklow mountains like a black snake set against the pure emerald of the surrounding land. Through my infrared camera the landscape took on the ethereal look I've come to love so much, green turning to white; the sky itself becoming dark against the screed of pulled paleness that are the clouds. The trees whisper and give up their green, their arms beckoning you forward. You pass a strange abandoned cottage, boarded up, under the early afternoon shadow of a huge old gnarled oak. Then, the lake....
