Learn to Surf in Todos Santos

It's true: anyone can learn to surf. Todos Santos is known worldwide amongst surfers for its waves, and Los Cerritos Beach is the perfect spot to test your balance and learn to surf with Mario Surf School. With the expert instruction of Mario and his staff, it's nearly impossible to not get up. The conditions are perfect for beginners, with small, steady waves and a sandy non-coral reef bottom. Mario's team works in assembly line fashion, with an instructor at every part of your journey, from paddling out, to helping position you and push you in to a wave, to applauding you from shore as you stand balanced on your foam top board. After the lesson, experience all that Todos Santos has to offer with Todos Santos Eco Adventures: head in to Todos Santos to explore this charming Baja Sur town, with colorful flags strung over the streets, a handful of charming boutiques and, of course, the famed Hotel California. Continue the day and enjoy lunch with a view, at the stunning Guaycura Boutique hotel, with its stunning, elevated panoramic vistas. Then, get your final dose of adventure for the day with some mountain biking with Todos Santos Eco Adventures.

Less than an hour away from the action of Cabo, you'll find a quiet piece of paradise at Playa Los Cerritos. This little surfer haven is popular with locals and tourists and features great waves for both the experienced thrill-seekers and those who just want to tackle their first wave. At the beginning, I had no intention of getting on the board, leaving that task to my surfing-crazed friend. Plus, I wore glasses. But after a few days watching the surfers and surfer-wannabes, I was eventually lured by the beautiful waters and decided to dive in sans glasses. I took a lesson with my friend from a small beach stand for less than $50 each, which included a wetsuit and board. I did quite a few tumbles, got bumped in the head by my board, but it was all worth it for that one moment I stood up. It was only for a few seconds, but a victory nonetheless.
