The streets of LA are everyday runways, and one of the best ways to dress like the stars without breaking the bank is to go to the source: downtown LA's Fashion District. Here, designers and distributors work day-in-and-day-out creating and selling their styles. At the corner of 9th and Los Angeles are four warehouses—the Cooper Design Space, Gerry Building, California Market Center and the New Mart—that are home to hundreds of showrooms that are typically only accessible to those doing business. However, on the last Friday of each month, their doors are often open to the public where they sell their end-of-season merchandise or “samples” at deep discounts. Some rules of the sample sale game: bring cash, bring your own bags, and get there early (hours are typically 9am - 3pm). Don’t be disappointed by the lack of sizes (2-4s are most typical), prepare for some craziness, and check each location’s website for more information.
