Loreto Bay National Marine Park

Loreto Bay National Marine Park

The Sea of Cortez is home to an incredibly diverse population of sealife—some 800 different species of marine animals—and the Loreto Bay National Marine Park protects 2,065 square kilometers (797 square miles) of habitat from the Coronado Islands in the north to Catalina Island in the south. Scuba divers and snorkelers can plunge into the calm waters to spot sea turtles and reef fish; the area's most famous residents, its six species of whales, spend their winters here. A kayaking trip among the islands is an ideal way to explore the park's secluded beaches and stunning coastlines.
