Londolozi Private Reserve

The National Park Act of 1926 established the Kruger National Park land boundaries in South Africa. Subsequently, native tribes and famers were removed. Several private land owners decided to establish their own private reserve, called Sabi Game Reserve, to the west of the new national park boundary. Londolozi, which translates to "protector of all living things" in Zulu, was established along the banks of the Sand River at this same time.

The founding owners of Londolozi and the neighboring parks were some of the first to promote ecotourism and photographic safaris, a theme that still continues to this day as the property has been passed down through generations of family members. You don't have to worry about lugging your precious camera gear with you because the lodge has professional cameras and lens kits to rent (starting at R130 per day). After safari, enter the Londolozi Creative Studio and work on your photos using Lightroom and Photoshop with the assistance of their creative team. You can even purchase a photo print on canvas and have it packaged for the journey home.

The property features five lodges, each with its own distinctive style. All five abut the river and are within walking distance to one another. Tree Camp, Private Granite Suites, and Pioneer Camp have a Relais and Chateaux fleur de lis, a mark of distinguished excellence in the overall quality of the experience you can expect. Families with children between the ages of six and sixteen are best accommodated Varty Camp or Founders Camp, the other two lodges on the premises. Leopards are arguably the most elusive of the Big 5 animals, which is why guests are primarily drawn to Londolozi for its reputation as an excellent part reserve in which to spot them in.

To get to Londolozi, fly into Skukuza in Kruger National Park or Nelspruit and then transfer overland to your lodge.

Superb safari

Founders Camp is one of five camps in the Londolozi family. 8 chalets with wifi in all if them. However! leave the tech tools at home and revel in the animals sighted on twice-daily game drives in open vehicles. You will leave a piece of your heart there when you leave.

A sip in time

Every animal sighting in the Londolozi Game Reserve is memorable. Being this close to the wild animals is something you don't forget. I left a piece of my heart in South Africa and go back to try to find it....but end up leaving a bigger piece.

What do we do now, bro?

In the Londolozi Game Reserve. Two teenage male lions treed by Cape Buffalo. We watched for more than 45 minutes wondering who would have the last laugh. Finally each lion carefully (but very quickly) got down and away from the waiting buffs. Great fun to watch the two jockey for position in the tree.
