In what was once the archers' tower at the Ljubljana castle, we had lunch at Strelec Restaurant. It's a gorgeous space with views of Ljubljana below, and the archers' windows have been preserved so diners can imagine what it would have been like to defend the castle many, many years ago. But the real reason to come is the food. Inspired by what the castle's inhabitants would have eaten centuries ago, the menu is thoroughly Slovene and full of surprises. Sea bass tartar, mashed root vegetables, beef cheek, and (pictured here) warm potato surrounding a runny egg yolk with truffles.
