For those of you who have ever wondered what Italy was probably like before the tourists showed up, this is that city. I have been all over Europe, but no city has left such a mark on me as Ljubljana. From the top of the city's castle, one can have a panoramic view of the lovely town square and its storybook canals that remind me of Venice (only three hours away). Also, renting a bike and exploring the Path of Remembrance allows one to experience the Fall foliage and the residential side of this city. And one of the city's top hotels, Vander Urbani Resort, is not to be missed for either the architecture or its spin on modern Slovene food.
