Liverpool Cathedral

St James Mt, Liverpool L1 7AZ, UK

You may not be as familiar with the ecclesiastical charms of Liverpool’s cathedral as you are with churches such as Westminster Abbey, but this local place of worship is actually the largest in Britain. Designed by the grandson of Sir George Gilbert Scott, construction of the church in local sandstone began in the early 20th century but was not completed, in part due to the interruption of two world wars, until the 1970s. Listen for the world’s highest, heaviest bells, or climb the steps of the tower for views out across the city.
