Livermore is a small city that lies at the eastern end of Livermore Valley, a quiet area in the hills east of San Francisco. Once we got off the busy highway that connects the cities of Livermore Valley, we drove into what felt like small town California. After a stop for French goodies at the wonderful Casse Croute Bakery, we walked through the downtown and found ourselves asking if we could find work there and how much it might cost to live in Livermore. The downtown, a mix of historic buildings, new rows of shops and restaurants, and clean squares with bubbling fountains, was so welcoming that we could have spent the rest of the day there. However, wine tasting in the hills outside town was calling, so we left while promising that we’d come back and spend a slow afternoon in Livermore’s downtown.
