For those seeking an active Caribbean vacation, the Lions Dive resort is a solid choice. At the center of the resort is a fully outfitted dive shop and watersport tour operator, essential for an island with more than 60 dive sites to discover. Regularly used by professional swimmers and the local triathlon club, even the 50-meter pool here is geared toward sports and fitness. Guests can join the free sports program with guided sea swimming, lap training in the pool, and running in the saltpans. Additionally, the private beach is on the nicest stretch of sand near Willemstad, and within walking distance to the aquarium and Mambo Beach Boulevard. Rooms are tidy and cheerful, though lacking in some amenities such as shampoo and conditioner (buy or bring your own). There are, however, more updated suites and two-bedroom apartments with large balconies overlooking the pool. The resort’s restaurants and bars are beachfront and open air, with hammock seating at Chill Beach Bar, a weekly Cuban night with live music at Hemingway, and a more fine-dining feel at Nemo.
