Culture in Linz isn’t frozen in the 19th century, when homegrown composer Anton Bruckner flourished. Instead, this handsome city hums with festivals, museums, and galleries. It’s a hub of electronica music and tech-based arts—and tech businesses, in general. The angular Lentos art museum provides the perfect backdrop for evocative works by Austrian artists like Klimt and Schiele. Stroll along the south bank of the Danube through Donaupark both to see quirky public sculptures and to work up an appetite for the requisite slice of local Linzer torte. (Take notes so you can conduct a critical tasting of the dessert’s rival Sachertorte when you hit Vienna.)
